Description

The Castle with 24 accomodation places, Swimminpools, indoor bar, restaurant, an lounges and outdoor common areas is an occasion to spend your vacation wedding in Umbria, land of nature, history and good food and wine.
Within the Castello walls there are 3 buidings: Castellare Maggiore, Castellare Minore and Mastio.
The rooms, 4 superior, 5 Suite or Junior Suite, and some halls are located in the Castellare Maggiore and Castellare Minore. The room tower is in the Mastio.
This his hilltop location sits on tree-lined summit overlooking the Chiascio valley, which provides the kind of picturesque landscape belowed by Perugino and Piero della Francesca.

The Castle exists already in the year 1073, as we can see from a document.
In 1257 a few feudal subordinates rose against Gubbio and submitted their Castles to Perugia.
On the 7 of May 1257 Ugolino, count of Coccorano submitted the Castle.
On the 24 March of 1384 count Antonio da Montefeltro submitted to Gubbio and became Lord of the city.
Gubbio ends its existence as a free town and was annexed to the Duchy of Urbino and so it will remain for many centuries.
A very important historical date is the 7 of June 1422, the very young Elisabetta degli Accomandugi, daughter of Guidopaolo and niece of Matteo, gave birth to Federico, who later on became Duke of Urbino.
Elisabetta, lady companion of Rengarda, Duchesse of Urbino, had her son from an adulterous relation with Rengarda's husband, Guidobaldo da Montefeltro.
From the severe walls starts one of the most fascinating stories of a man that illuminated the XV° century and the Italian Renaissance.
Reading the history of the Castel, we can find the story of the families that lived and owned the Castle and the feud:
In 1458 freehold estate were hereditated from Elisabetta, and the feudal titles were given to Ugolino dei Bardi until the 3° generation.
In 1487 Guidobaldo da Montefeltro gave the castle and it's land to Alessandro Reggeri di Canossa. The property stayed with this family 4 generations (after Alessandro, the son Bonifacio, the grandson Orazio, and the great grandson Camilla).
In 1617 Camilla di Canossa, who did not have children, gave it to the Monte di Pietà of Reggio Emilia (a carity istitution).
The 8° of May 1629 the Monte di Pietà sold to the Ugolini family of Gubbio; the price was 6.200 scudi.
In 1909 (the Good Friday) the Castle and all of it's land were bought by the familiy that has still the property.

You will stay in an elegant and historical castle, old ambience in a refined and welcoming atmosphere; living in this place join your life to history that lived within these walls.
The rooms have antique and authentic fornitures, wood beam ceiling, old printings or paintings (XVIII° century). In the castle there is the reastaurant, bar, and brakfast room.
In total the castle as got 4 superior, 5 Suite or Junior Suite 1 tower room.
All have : mini-bar, tv-set, pay-tv, telephone and hair dryer, Cot (on request)
Some have : sleeping sofà, whirpool bath, fireplace and a sweeping views acros the valley.
The Deluxe room is two level room 50 square meters large, 25 is the room and the same size is the bathroom. In the bathroom there are the shower and a round whirpool bath.
The Suites are from 60 to 90 square meters large and have a separate living room with a sleeping sofa.
The Junior Suites are very large rooms (about 60 square meters); some have a whirpool bath.
The Superior rooms are about 40 square meters and have both whirpool bath and shower.
